Warning! Spoilers Ahead for Deadpool and Wolverine!
If you haven’t seen the movie yet and want to avoid spoilers, stop reading now!
In the lead-up to Deadpool and Wolverine’s release, director Shawn Levy promised fans “a lot of” cameos in the new Marvel movie – and he wasn’t kidding. Much of the film is set in The Void, introduced in Loki Season 1, a dumping ground for anything and anyone the TVA deems unfit for their timeline. This setting provided ample opportunity for surprise appearances. We already knew that X-Men’s Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Sabretooth (Tyler Mane), and X-23 (Dafne Keen) would appear, and that was just the start…
Executive producer Wendy Jacobson previously told GamesRadar+ and the Inside Total Film podcast, “I can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick. Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle, and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn’t.”
Below, we break down every Deadpool and Wolverine cameo, from who they are and who’s playing them to their context in the movie and the wider franchise. So, what are you waiting for? Keep reading…
Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan
Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan is the first unexpected character to appear in Deadpool and Wolverine. After a gory opening where Deadpool uses Logan’s adamantium skeleton to fight TVA’s Minutemen, the film flashes back to March 2018, when Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) interviews for a spot on the Avengers team. Happy rejects Wade, critiquing his motivation and powers, leading to a humorous yet unsuccessful plea from Wade.
Various Avengers
In the trailers, Matthew Macfadyen’s rogue TVA agent Paradox shows Wade footage of the Avengers to convince him to join the Sacred Timeline, implying Deadpool has a higher purpose. On the TVA screens, Wade sees clips of Cap, Hulk, and Iron Man, and a future version of himself being cradled by a teary-eyed Thor.
Henry Cavill as a Wolverine Variant
Henry Cavill plays a Wolverine variant in a high-energy montage where Deadpool searches for a Logan replacement. Initially seen from behind, Cavill’s face is revealed when the character turns around while working on a motorcycle.
Hulk
A variant of Bruce Banner, AKA the Hulk, briefly appears during the montage. Deadpool comments on his unique tan and brown suit, identifying him as John Byrne’s version of the character, before seeing Hulk’s reflection in Wolverine’s adamantium claws.
Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch
Chris Evans appears as Johnny Storm, AKA the Fantastic Four’s Human Torch. Mistaking him for Captain America, Deadpool watches as Johnny ignites and flies off, only to be skinned alive by Cassandra Nova shortly after.
Tyler Mane as Sabretooth
Sabretooth, played by Tyler Mane, appears in a fight with Wolverine that fans have awaited for decades. Wolverine ultimately beheads Sabretooth, despite Deadpool’s humorous commentary.
Aaron Stanford as Pyro
Aaron Stanford reprises his role as Pyro from Fox’s original X-Men trilogy. In the Void, Pyro teams up with Paradox to double-cross Cassandra Nova, trying to return to his timeline.
Jennifer Garner as Elektra
Jennifer Garner’s Elektra appears among a group of forgotten heroes in the Void. Deadpool makes a fourth wall-breaking joke about Daredevil, nodding to Garner’s past role in the 2003-2005 pre-MCU Marvel films.
Wesley Snipes as Blade
Wesley Snipes reprises his role as Blade, joining Elektra, Gambit, and X-23 in the Void. Blade delivers an iconic line while fighting alongside Wade and Wolverine, with a fourth-wall joke referencing Marvel’s upcoming Blade remake.
Channing Tatum as Gambit
Channing Tatum appears as Gambit, flicking an enchanted card across the room. Wolverine drinks Gambit’s liquor, prompting a humorous exchange. Tatum’s appearance is notable given his previously canceled standalone Gambit film.
Dafne Keen as X-23/Laura
Dafne Keen’s X-23 cameo serves as an important reminder of Logan’s legacy and potential for redemption. Her appearance underscores the continuity and emotional depth from her debut in the 2017 film Logan.
Stan Lee
Stan Lee “cameos” via an ad on the side of a bus during a battle scene, maintaining the tradition of his appearances in Marvel films.
Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15/Verity Willis
Wunmi Mosaku reprises her role as Hunter B-15 from Loki, detaining Paradox for unauthorized use of a Time Ripper and thanking Deadpool and Wolverine for their help.
Mutant Mayhem
Several mutants, including Juggernaut, Azazel, Psylocke, Lady Deathstrike, Toad, Bullseye, and Quill, appear as Cassandra Nova’s thugs. They serve as obstacles for the protagonists, adding to the film’s action-packed scenes.
Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool
Blake Lively plays Lady Deadpool, confirmed in the post-credits scene. In the comics, Lady Deadpool is a female counterpart from an alternate reality, Earth-3010.
Matthew McConaughey as Cowboy Deadpool
Matthew McConaughey voices Cowboy Deadpool, who has a brief but memorable appearance. His Southern drawl is unmistakable, adding a fun twist to the character.
